about propofol -a short-acting intravenous hypnotic general anesthetia(intravenous induction agent). -mechanism of action of propofol -it excites inhibitory and inhibits excitatory synapsis by binding ligand-gated ion channels specially post-synaptic gaba receptors. it cause cns depression and calcium channel mediated cardiac depression. -indications for propofol -1. induction/maintenance of anesthesia -2. conscious sedation -interactions for propofol -opioids muscle relaxants / neuromuscular blockers: increased anaesthesia increased respiratory depression (opioids) increased neuromuscular blockade. -midazolam thiopental fentanyl: increased hypnosis. -nitrous oxide halothane isoflurane: decrease dose.
